Missing teeth don't have to limit your smile or dietary choices. Dental implants are the gold standard for tooth replacement, offering a permanent solution that functions and feels like a natural tooth. At Laytonsville Family Dentistry, Dr. Harith Ali places implants and handles all necessary surgical procedures — including bone grafts, sinus lifts, and guided membrane regeneration — right here in our state-of-the-art Gaithersburg office. You receive comprehensive, coordinated care with no external referrals.
A dental implant is a titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Over several months, the bone integrates with the implant, creating a stable foundation. Once integration is complete, we attach a custom crown to the implant, restoring the appearance and function of your natural tooth. The result is a restoration that looks, feels, and functions like a real tooth for decades.
Implants preserve bone structure, maintain your facial profile, and don't require changes to neighboring teeth like bridges do. They also restore your confidence to eat, speak, and smile without concern.
Implant treatment spans several months to allow proper bone integration and healing. Dr. Ali places the implant during an initial surgical appointment, which typically takes one to two hours depending on complexity. After placement, you'll have several follow-up visits to monitor healing. Once the bone has integrated — usually four to six months later — we design and place your final crown. Throughout the process, we keep you comfortable and informed.
Many patients need additional surgical support to achieve successful implants. Bone grafting rebuilds jawbone where loss from long-standing missing teeth or periodontal disease has occurred. We harvest bone tissue, either from your own jaw or from biocompatible donor sources, and graft it to strengthen the implant site.
A sinus lift elevates the sinus membrane and adds bone height in the upper jaw, which is often needed for implants in the back upper teeth. Guided membrane regeneration uses specialized barriers to direct new bone growth in specific areas, optimizing implant success.
Surgical extractions handle teeth too damaged to save. Our expertise in oral surgery means we extract teeth efficiently while preserving as much bone as possible for future implant placement if desired.
When most or all of the teeth in an arch are missing or failing, All-on-X (often called All-on-4 or All-on-6) replaces the entire arch with a fixed set of teeth supported by as few as four to six implants. Instead of a removable denture, you get a permanent, non-slip set of teeth anchored directly to your jaw — letting you eat, speak, and smile with confidence again.
Because the implants are angled to use your available bone, many patients qualify for All-on-X without separate bone grafting, and in select cases can leave with a temporary fixed set of teeth the same day. Dr. Ali plans the entire case in-house using 3D CAT scan imaging, places the implants, and coordinates your final restoration — no outside referrals.
Once an implant has integrated, we restore it with a custom implant crown for a single missing tooth, or an implant bridge when several teeth in a row are missing. An implant bridge is anchored to two or more implants rather than grinding down healthy neighboring teeth the way a traditional bridge does — preserving more of your natural tooth structure while filling the gap with a stable, natural-looking result.
All implant surgery and restoration happens in-house with Dr. Ali, eliminating coordination between multiple providers and reducing treatment time.
